Playwright & Actor: Andy Kalirai

Artist Statement by Andy Kalirai:

I wrote this show as a love letter to South Van — for the people I grew up with, and the ones I looked up to. The ones who showed me what it meant to be a man. The ones who loved me, even if they couldn’t say the words.

I’ve learned not to rush toward answers. Sincerity and honesty take us further than ambition ever will. Art is the closest thing I’ve found to something more. Ideas come and go — but real life happens when you touch it. Experience it. Feel it. There’s a world beyond the hood we came up in — things we can’t explain, but feel in our bones. We came into this world whole. We’ll leave it the same way. There’s nothing to chase.
